Home > New Brunswick > Village Historique Acadien

Travel to the tranquil outskirts of modern society in the beautiful northeast corner of New Brunswick to discover the determined spirit of Acadian history.  Originating from 17th century France, the Acadians were the first French settlers in North America. Not without hardship and great loss, Le Grand Dérangement (deportation) scattered Acadians throughout the world. Today, the Village Historique Acadien portrays the ingenuity and endurance of Acadians from 1770 – 1949 as they rebuilt their lives and a future for their children.

More than 40 historic buildings make up this bustling village including a general store, cooper’s complex, tinsmith shop, shoemaker, lobster hatchery, and more. As you travel through time, you’ll meet bilingual interpreters in period costume as they carry out their daily tasks. Spinning wool, baking bread or making a barrel, each of the villagers has a story to tell, a craft or custom to bring to life. You can even take a ride on a horse-drawn cart.

To truly transport yourself through time, spend the night at the Hotel Château Albert on the historic site.  Cozy and comfortable but without the modern distractions of television or telephone, the hotel offers an authentic early 20th century experience.

New this year is the addition of dinner theatres running from July 1 – August 29th.  Savour authentic foods and delight your soul with entertaining storytelling and lively music, all infused with the unique and joyful Acadian culture.

To truly experience Village Historique Acadien, bring the whole family and plan to stay the day!
