Celtic culture comes alive at The College of Piping & Celtic Performing Arts of Canada in beautiful Prince Edward Island.  Immerse yourself in a living, breathing heritage with the skirl of the bagpipes, rhythm of the drums, and flying feet of the dancers! Arouse your senses with vibrant sights and sounds, and feel inspired by the spirit of young students who embrace their heritage with infectious enthusiasm.

This summer, uplift your spirits and feel the exhilaration of Highland Storm: The Gael, an all-new, high-energy show of Celtic music, song and dance. Visitors will be captivated by the fast-paced feet of the Highland and step dancers, stirred by the sounds of the pipes and drums, and soothed by the sweet voice of Patricia Murray, with her stirring love ballads and rhythmical work songs.  With the 250th anniversary of the birth of Robert Burns being celebrated this year, the show also pays tribute to “Scotland’s national bard”.

Featuring a cast of over thirty talented musicians, singers and dancers, the show runs three nights a week, Tuesday - Thursday throughout July and August.  With artistic direction provided by Stephanie Cadman, a world-renowned dancer, fiddler and choreographer, this is THE MUST-SEE show on PEI this summer.

The 90-minute show features three highly-acclaimed Prince Edward Island artists: Patricia Murray (vocals), Roy Johnstone (Fiddle) and Brad Fremlin (Keyboard).  The show also features, Cameron Francis, a young step dancing dynamo known across PEI for his charm and charisma.

The only year-round institution of its kind in North America, The College of Piping has developed a world-class reputation as an international school of excellence in Highland bagpipe, Scottish-style snare drumming, Highland dancing and Island step dancing. Since 1990, students from all over the world have come to learn traditional Celtic arts, passed down from generation to generation. With a mandate to preserve and promote the Celtic heritage of Canada’s most Celtic province, Prince Edward Island, The College ignites passion in the hearts and minds of students and visitors alike.

In addition to Highland Storm, visitors are invited to visit the College of Piping and Celtic Performing Arts, Monday – 9-5, Tuesday – Thursday 9 am – 10 pm and Fridays 9-5. WE ARE CLOSED ON THE WEEKENDS. You’ll have an opportunity to see our students at work in summer programs and workshops as well as attend mini concerts.

the ancient Celts were farmers and warriors, with a strongly hierarchical society with powerful chiefs. They built large hillforts to protect their communities, some of their hillforts can still be seen at places like Maiden Castle in Dorest for instance. Celtic warriors were famous for their ferocity and bravery. Chariots were used by the warriors,a nd also cavalry. They worshipped many gods and goddesses, and apparently (according to Caesar) practiced human sacrifice. The Druids were important figures in Celtic society, they were priests and teachers, and seem to have been highly regarded. The Celts seem to have a cult of the human head, many carved stone heads have been found that were made by Celtic craftsmen. Sometimes their dead were buried, and sometimes they were cremated.Myspace Profile Layouts

Through The Three Oaks, her personal foundation, McKennitt will enter into a three-year partnership with the college. Though he did not disclose the amount, MacAulay describes the singer’s contribution as a substantial donation in support of the college and its mission.
