Discover true pioneering spirit as you travel back to a time when Captain William Ross was asked by the Governor of Nova Scotia to embark with 172 disbanded soldiers and their families to organize the establishment of the Sherbrooke settlement, now called New Ross.

Welcome to the former home and farmland of Captain William Ross and his wife Mary at New Ross Farm Museum.  Visit their cozy cottage built in 1817, and be enchanted by the stories of triumph and challenge of the pioneers of New Ross.  Your whole family will enjoy exploring the village school, cooper shop, 1830s vintage store and two barns that combine to recreate this bustling early 19th century Nova Scotian farm. Costumed interpreters, many of whom are descendants of the original settlers, spin wool, farm, bake and much more, bringing this historic farm to life.  Learn about the rare period animals that live on the farm including oxen, Canadian horses and Berkshire pigs, and how they helped to sustain the community’s forefathers.

Enjoy a horse-drawn wagon around the pastoral 23 hectare site or share a picnic on the shore of beautiful Lake Lawson. Bring home hand crafted wooden, coopered or blacksmith items including spoons, barrels & tubs, hearth tools and more from our delightful gift shop.

Listen to the wondrous accounts of life “back in the day” and learn about our rich Nova Scotian heritage. Share in the pride of our land and celebrate life’s simple pleasures as you take in the scenes of natural beauty and the lives of pioneers.

At Ross Farm Museum you are sure to discover that memories are among the best souvenirs.
