Fàilte is furan oribh! Welcome to the Highland Village/An Clachan Gàidhealach! Nova Scotia’s vibrant Gaelic culture and traditions are alive and awaiting your discovery at this living history museum and folk-life centre overlooking the magnificent Bras d’Or Lakes on Cape Breton Island.

You’ll be charmed by the enduring spirit of pioneering Scottish Gaels in this pristine and scenic setting.  Featuring costumed animators, historic, rare livestock and eleven period buildings dating back to the late 1700s, you’ll experience life as it was when the first Scottish settlers came to Cape Breton Island to forge a new future. With the only replica of a Hebridean-style black house outside of Gaelic Scotland, hewn beam farmhouses, a community built church, a one-room school house and places of traditional business, Highland Village invites you to explore a century and a half of Gaelic life in Nova Scotia.

Stir your senses and lift your heart as you hear the unique and beautiful Gaelic language. Enjoy the rhythm of Cape Breton music and just try to resist tapping your toes while you take part in our authentic céilidhs. Join one of our cultural or language-based programs including music, storytelling and more. And celebrate Gaelic social life with our on-site concerts, workshops, special tours and delicious suppers.

Before heading back to the 21st century, be sure to visit the Highland Village Gift Shop where we carry local crafts, language and history books and an extensive selection of Cape Breton and Celtic music.

Discover our living Gaelic culture in the scenic heart of Cape Breton Island. Thigibh air chéilidh! Come for a visit!
