If the designation of UNESCO World Heritage Site is like winning an Academy Award for the Town of Lunenburg, then the Fisheries Museum of the Atlantic is a bit like the after party. Recently named one of the Top 1000 Best Places to See in the US and Canada Before You Die, the Fisheries Museum celebrates the rich heritage of fishing – the boats, the people, the towns and the sea.
Located on the picturesque Lunenburg waterfront, the Fisheries Museum offers three floors of exhibits within brightly painted red historic buildings, including an aquarium and the world’s largest collection of Bluenose artifacts. Breathe in the fresh salt air while exploring our wharf-side exhibits, including a chance to discover your “sea-legs” with full access to the schooner Theresa E. Connor and the side trawler Cape Sable.
Learn about rum running and lobsters or launch a model schooner. Listen to the stories of adventure and danger from our “old salts” - locals who have made their lives on the North Atlantic. You can also take in a fascinating marine-related film in our air-conditioned Ice House Theatre.
Rain, shine, young, old – there is a bounty of interesting, fun, and memorable activities to convert your whole family of landlubbers at the Fisheries Museum of the Atlantic.
